Democrats 2008: Hillary 52%, Obama 29%

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - More than half of Democratic Party supporters in the United States think Hillary Rodham Clinton should become their presidential nominee next year, according to a poll by Harris Interactive. 52 per cent of respondents would back the New York senator in a 2008 presidential primary, up seven points since October.

Illinois senator Barack Obama is second with 29 per cent, followed by former North Carolina senator John Edwards with 11 per cent. Support is lower for Delaware senator Joe Biden, Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, and Connecticut senator Chris Dodd.

On Nov. 20 in Iowa, Dodd discussed his chances, saying, "More than 70 per cent of the likely caucus goers are undecided and that’s when you consider all the attention that’s been paid to so-called top tier candidates. You wonder how that can be and yet people are not satisfied with the top tier, they are shopping."

Politico editor: It looks like someone helped Rudy 'cover his tracks' during affair

During Wednesday evening's Republican debate, GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani flatly denied a new report that as mayor of New York he had obscured security expenses during the beginning of an extra-marital affair -- but his explanation leaves a lot to be desired, according to the editor-in-chief of the publication that broke the story.

Appearing on the CBS Early Show, Politico's John Harris was asked if Giuliani's answer about the potential scandal was "enough to make it go away."

Mike Huckabee wants open borders and amnesty; Huckabee wants the destruction of the U.S. as we know it

I have about had it with the Huck supporters putting out BS regarding their candidate. Every time I put out a post re: the huckster, someone chimes in with BS and no substance. Obviously they are surfing the Internet for blogs to post their BS. So, I think it’s appropriate that I make an all out effort to get the truth out regarding Mike Huckabee. Mike Huckabee is not good for America. America cannot afford Mike at the helm or as VP (under Giuliani).

Here is an article regarding Huckabee wanting to destroy the United States as we know it. Vote for Huckabee and you destroy America. Here’s a June 30, 2005 article to substantiate my contention.

The Early Word: Second Is the New First Place?

Second place finishers often act a little grouchy, grumbling about what could have been. But the Washington Post today explores how being voters’ second choice in Iowa could put a Democratic candidate on top overall.

Follow this for a moment: In most precincts, each candidate must receive support from at least 15 percent of the folks in attendance to remain viable. If a smaller percentage of caucusgoers in a particular precinct supports Sen. Chris Dodd, for example, each Dodd supporter has the option of throwing his or her support to someone else, someone they like second-best.

And that may help the second-best person come in first.

This is why Barack Obama recently asked a Dodd supporter in Iowa if he could please be her second choice.

In West Iowa, Obama’s Man Thinks Locally

By The New York Times

MISSOURI VALLEY, Iowa, Nov. 24 — Rory Steele had bounced along a gravel road that rides like a washboard to get to the farmstead. He stepped across a few rows of soybeans, climbed up the steps of a red Case combine and squeezed into a seat next to Lyle McIntosh, who was circling a field.

Mr. Steele drove 17 miles from his office in Council Bluffs that crisp October morning to see how the harvest was coming along. He had no stake in the crop yields or commodity prices, but another question weighed on his mind: Would the work be finished in time for Mr. McIntosh to help drum up support for Senator Barack Obama?

Huckabee: I'm Against Illegal Immigration, But I'm Not A Lunatic About It

By Greg Sargent
ABC News has posted a pretty compelling interview with Mike Huckabee about immigration. In it, Huckabee was asked about charges from rivals that he's soft on immigration because he supported the children of illegal immigrants being eligible for scholarships and backed free prenatal care for illegal immigrants in need of it.

Common Security for our Common Humanity

By Barak Obama
At moments of great peril in the last century, American leaders such as Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy managed both to protect the American people and to expand opportunity for the next generation. What is more, they ensured that America, by deed and example, led and lifted the world -- that we stood for and fought for the freedoms sought by billions of people beyond our borders.

As Roosevelt built the most formidable military the world had ever seen, his Four Freedoms gave purpose to our struggle against fascism. Truman championed a bold new architecture to respond to the Soviet threat -- one that paired military strength with the Marshall Plan and helped secure the peace and well-being of nations around the world. As colonialism crumbled and the Soviet Union achieved effective nuclear parity, Kennedy modernized our military doctrine, strengthened our conventional forces, and created the Peace Corps and the Alliance for Progress. They used our strengths to show people everywhere America at its best.
