Attacks on Obama in 08 By Clinton get more Frequent

First we will get the political cartoon of the day. This cartoon is a great laugh during the current trend of the nominational races.

In the Republican race, John McCain, the presumptive nominee, was looking for convincing wins over former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in primaries in Wisconsin and Washington state to show that the party is rallying behind his candidacy. The Arizona senator picked up former President George H. W. Bush's support on Monday, a critical blessing by a pillar of the Republican establishment.

Democrats in Wisconsin and Hawaii were voting Tuesday in a presidential campaign that has gotten increasingly negative with charges of broken promises, plagiarism and petty partisanship. Hillary Rodham Clinton was looking to rebound after eight straight losses to Barack Obama who was looking to increase his lead in the race for nominating delegates.

ELECTION 2008 DEMOCRATS: Nader jumps in

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Consumer advocate Ralph Nader announced yesterday he's running for president, a move that isn't likely to put him in the White House but that could shave votes from the Democratic nominee in November's election.

Nader, who ran as the Green Party candidate for president in 2000, announced his White House intentions on NBC's "Meet the Press" yesterday.

Hillary Rodham Clinton said Nader's bid would be bad for whichever Democrat ultimately faces likely Republican nominee Sen. John McCain in November.

John McCain Mocks Ron Paul Supporters

I met John McCain back in the 2000 Presidential campaign cycle. I was working for Steve Forbes at the time as a regional campaign manager in North Carolina. As part of my duties during the Republican Presidential Debate down in South Carolina I served as Mr. Forbes' driver and escort.

It was great to be a part of the behind-the-scenes action, starting with Mr. Forbes getting his stage make-up put on for the debate, to driving our van at break-neck speed to get to the debate on time with Mr. Forbes and a handful of reporters shouting directions from the back seat, to our surprise post-debate visit to an international AMWAY sales convention. But one moment left an indelible impression on my mind; it was when I met John McCain.

RightBlog: Phase II of 2008 presidential election

As we move into the presidential and congressional elections of 2008 it is undeniable that stakes are as great this year as any in my lifetime.

When I was growing up we were constantly reminded that the world was divided into two major power segments and they were the communist and capitalist democracies. Both sides were promising to conquer the world with their ideas, philosophies, and through a generous use of their military. There were some major differences.

Clinton wins NM Democratic caucus (6:07 a.m.)

Las Cruces Sun ALBUQUERQUE — Hillary Rodham Clinton was declared the clear winner of New Mexico's Democratic caucus on Thursday and Barack Obama was a close second, but the state Democratic Party emerged from the contest battered and debating whether caucus day troubles should spell the end of the early contest.

In yet another New Mexico election with a razor-tight race requiring a sluggish count of provisional ballots, state party officials have drawn a sharp rebuke from Gov. Bill Richardson and criticism from Democratic county chairs and voters.

Huckabee’s Tropical Getaway

On Friday, Gov. Mike Huckabee and his wife Janet, following two days of campaigning in frigid Wisconsin, will head south for a weekend in the warm, tax-friendly climate of the Cayman Islands. The Huckabees are noted lovers of the outdoors (Janet’s a crack shot) but they won’t be doing much scuba diving there.

The governor is scheduled to make a paid speech at the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards banquet, where he was keynote speaker in 2000. The money (campaign aides declined to say how much) won’t go to his presidential campaign but into his pockets. Since he left the governor’s office in Little Rock a year ago, Huckabee’s primary source of income has been paid speaking engagements, making one or two every few months.

Huckabee Brushes Off Calls to Bow Out

WASHINGTON (AP) — Against overwhelming odds, Mike Huckabee keeps brushing off calls to drop his presidential bid for the good of the Republican Party. The former Arkansas governor and ordained Baptist minister is following in the footsteps of past spoilers such as Republican Ronald Reagan in 1976 and Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in 1980, who both pressed uphill primary challenges to the limits.

Some GOP sages suggest it's hard to quit while you're still winning races, as Huckabee is doing, despite the mathematical reality of the delegate count. But then Huckabee likes to brag that he "didn't major in math, I majored in miracles," and he asserted anew on Monday his intention to stay in the race.

In those earlier challenges, the front-runners were sitting presidents. Both President Ford in 1976 and President Carter in 1980 went on to lose their re-election bids, clearly weakened by the divisive primaries.

Ron Paul's Moral Victory

In this election cycle, I had a candidate that I could believe in. But then again, I at one time thought Ross Perot and Pat Buchanan had the right ideas when it came to national sovereignty, fiscal responsibility, limited government, and illegal immigration--all those things that are basic to preserving America. I believed that the government used the events of 9/11 to grab more power and infringe on personal liberties. I believe we have no business creating a new nation for the Iraqis. Besides, we can't afford it. The latest stimulus package helps the Chinese economy much more than it does ours. And Ron Paul was right on every point.

Without a sound economy, none of the other things in this campaign season matter much. I've listened to the health care proposals and shake my head. The money isn't there. I read about the $164 billion stimulus package, in addition to the current budget, which is $400 billion in the red. All that will add to the $9.2 trillion national debt. And my grandchildren will have to pay that off, someday, in Ameropesos. Read More?

Clinton Senior Staff Goes Without Pay

ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: Members of Senator Hillary Clinton's senior campaign staff have agreed to work without pay for the month of February. Communications Director Howard Wolfson called the move "a show of solidarity with Hillary Clinton".

Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle is one of those who will forego a paycheck for the month. Solis Doyle told ABC News she offered the Senator her services for free. She said she was not asked to take a pay cut.

Many of Clinton's top staff, including Solis Doyle and others, have been with the Senator for more than a decade and are fiercely loyal to her.

Barack Obama gains ground on Hillary Clinton

FORGET the staged smiles of last week’s televised debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama at the home of the Oscars in Los Angeles. With two days to go before Super Tuesday, the contest for the Democratic presidential nomination has turned into a deadly struggle between two political titans.

Nearly half the country is up for grabs in one of the most evenly matched encounters of its kind. The crowds drawn by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to their rallies are so huge and the atmosphere so electric that it feels as if America is witnessing the final round of the battle for the White House rather than the preliminary skirmish to decide who will carry forward their party’s banner.
